Kamenz

The Lessingstadt Kamenz is located about 40 km northeast of the state capital Dresden. Approximately 17.000 inhabitants currently live in the large district town.

Even today, the life and work of the city's great son - the proponent of the Enlightenment and poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing - can be admired and discovered in various authentic places and in the Lessing Museum. In addition to the poet, the city of Kamenz was shaped by the centuries-old “Via Regia” trade route, which was also a pilgrimage route. The sacred treasures in the sacral museum and the city center with the imposing town hall testify to the history of the city of Kamenz.

The Sachsen city railroad connects Kamenz with the Dresden main station every hour. You can get easily to the state capital in 45 minutes. Modern rental offers and attractive construction sites with good access make Kamenz an interesting center of life.

In the 15 urban and privately run day care centers, the youngest are in good hands right from the start. In four elementary schools, the two secondary schools and the Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing high school, a continuous range of education can be ensured close to home. Specific all-day offers set special priorities. Vocational schools, music and folk high school and the city library complete the comprehensive range of education.

Kamenz is primarily known for its traditional festivals and events, such as the Kamenz Forest Festival, the Fête de la Musique, but also for current rock and pop concerts on the amphitheater alike Hutbergbühne. Easter rides take place every year in the nearby St. Marien Monastery - a tradition of the Catholic Sorbs, some of whom also live in the bilingual city of Kamenz. There is a unique park of native and exotic plants on the Hutberg. Especially in May, the delightful month, thousands of blooming rhododendrons and azaleas fascinate visitors' eyes and hearts. The extensive green area invites you to take relaxing walks and from the Lessing tower you can enjoy a fantastic view of the rooftops of Kamenz.

The business location Kamenz is characterized by small and medium-sized companies in the fields of textile, mechanical engineering and plastic processing. The largest and most well-known companies in the city include: Deutsche ACCUmotive GmbH & Co. KG (Daimler subsidiary), Sachsen Fahnen GmbH & Co.KG (operating worldwide with a modern large-format printing system) and Mast-Jägermeister SE (world-famous spirits manufacturer with filling plant in Kamenz).
